The role of social media damages self-worth. It can make relationships stronger in a sense of bonding and getting to know someone, but it entangles many people in. People, if you think about it, are worked up in the social media world, and don't even know it. There's sort of an acceptance to it because in today's society, it's sort of the normal. You see many people with their phones out on social media with friends or family around. You also see kids on their parent's phone or sibling's devices watching social media or playing games on the social media apps. Without social media, there would be no purpose for some people, but most likely people that are worked up in it, wouldn't know how to function. It's also scary to think that this might be our world.
My reactions to the podcasts is: I can't believe people are so hung up on social medias. I can't grasp my brain around it. This idea were social media controls humans instead of the other way around. I think to myself I was literally born in the wrong generation. It bothers me that these teenager girls care so much about who likes their pictures, how many likes they get, and the simple need for it all. Don't get me wrong, I was a teenager once. If I didn't get many likes on a picture I would delete it and post it at a different time or post a better picture. But I didn't let it consume me and after the second picture, that would be that. Except, now a days, I hardly ever text someone back, LET ALONE get on social medias. It's too time constricting, and people should be out living life or at least spend less time on social medias than the world does now.
Another thing, for me when the girls; Julia, Elia, and Jane mentioned they don't "need" people to think they're pretty, I think it's the opposite. I think girls are more insecure so they want that acceptance. They want to feel pretty or if they see another girl in school "so pretty" they want to look like that too or similar. But who defines pretty?
The girls also mention, they "brand" themselves. It's absurd. It's crazy to hear teenager girls say that they brand themselves on social media. For the reason of needing to be or wanting to be relevant? I would say that ruins lives, unless modeling for them is seen in their future and becomes a career or hobby. I think it's a little ridiculous. But what're your thoughts or take on this?
I do however, think that this podcast makes sense. It talks about social media and the reasons behind it. Why people are so wrapped up in the internet world. But many people aren't so dis-engageed, but rather more engaged in what's going on online.
On that note, here's another meme.. And I'll leave it at that.

I love the way you started blog #3. How you go straight into the topic and give your opinion. I could also relate to how people are all into social media, I believe that is true too. All people care about now a days is social media.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree because social media has taken control of the human race and can be a really nice place or a very hurtful place. Most people want to be liked but when they don't receive the attention this can result in a depressive type state of mind.
ReplyDeleteI agree that social media has taken over people lives i do wish i was born in a different generation to because there more than social media and technology it call go outside and have fun and enjoy life instead being on social media or playing video games .All time. People need to learn. How to enjoy the little things in life.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the need to "setup" the post by establishing the context first and inviting the reader into the conversation before you just jump into the specifics of your point.
